nintendo ds - first day

OMG- we love the nintendo DS. I say 'we' because - despite the fact that she bought it for me for Christmas - Des has pretty much pwned the DS since I opened it up, being quite the Mario addict. We now have 4 games for it:

  1. Super Mario Brothers DS
Don't even play this near Des or she will steal the DS at her first opportunity. Really good DS version of an old classic. I'm only mid-way through the second world right now, but think Des is about to beat the game.
  2. Brain Age
We heard really good things about this game from friends, so figured we'd give it a shot. So far it's interesting, but I'll need to judge it over time, as it's that kind of game. The idea is to 'train' your brain with little tests every day, to reduce your 'brain age' (ideal/perfect age is 20, right now I'm a bit younger than my actual age of 39). Interesting- but the jury's out.
  3. Final Fantasy V
A great port of the rare classic FFV game to the DS. For the initiates, Final Fantasy is a RPG (role-playing game) that has the habit of stealing your life for bursts of time. This is definitely not breaking with the FF tradition, and so far has been a great game. Thumbs up.
  4. Mario Kart DS
This will probably be my favorite of the group. Amazing game, and the one of our four that really take advantage of the wireless connectivity. My first game was against 3 other players across the world (one definitely from Japan), and getting it hooked up to our home network took about zero time at all. Awesome!

Right now Des is ripping through Mario Kart (it's her first time on the game), so I expect I'm back to the PSP for the next hour or so (current PSP game: Killzone:Liberation, which is a great third-person hybrid shooter game). Thank god we have two handheld gaming units here! I'm seriously considering buying a second DS so Des and I can race each other at Mario Kart, it's really that much fun. That would also give me a chance at actually playing my DS once in a while, too. She's notorious for hogging the games. :)
