alcatraz, tivo hell

Great day - well almost entirely (more on that later). Spent the day catching up on tourism opportunities missed throughout the years- Des and I, despite both living here in SF for over 5 years now as well as myself growing up in the area, have never been to Alcatraz. Chris Georgenes and his son Bobby hadn't either, and were in the area as Chris is speaking at MacWorld tomorrow. So we all went to Alcatraz this morning, and had a great time both on the Rock as well as on Fisherman's Wharf ogling seals and buying hats. Wanna see?

The bad part was coming home to our TV being pitch black, and nothing on the TiVo that recorded since Friday is anything but. Argh. I've since traced this back to the TiVo itself (video comes in, but does not escape!), but ironically when hooking up another identical TiVo series 2 unit to the chain, same results- black live TV screen, but the TiVo interface shows just fine. Argh. So I'm resetting/reconfiguring TiVos and spelunking behind the big TV set this evening, trying to get a PVR back online so we can actually catch the few shows we like to watch (being totally DVR-centric as a couple, we haven't watched a show at it's regular time in at least 18 months). Not exactly how I'd wanted to spend the tail end of such a glorious Sunday, but hey- gotta take the bad with the good... ;-)
